Wood & Stone - Commercial Souvenirs
The final category in wood and stone are commercial items. After the war, when the naval fleet was downsized to reflect the end of the war to end all wars, the salvage companies that broke up the ships would sell the internal wood to souvenir companies who would produce all manner of objects for sale. Each would have a brass plaque saying something along the lines of “Teak from HMS Iron Duke, Admiral Jellicoe’s flagship, Jutland 1916”. Barrels, napkin rings, letter racks, book ends, boxes, you name it, they made it!
